Afternoon Tea at Dolly's Tea Room & Gin Palace

"Would you like an adventure now, or shall we have our tea first?" - Peter Pan

One of my oldest, dearest friends, the lovely Sarah from the Salty Sea blog visited home from University this week. When organising a catch up, we both agreed we had to visit one of our favourite spots, Dolly's Tea Room in Falmouth to have a pot of tea, slice of cake and a good old natter. Dolly's is a one of a kind tea room with a wonderfully warm and welcoming atmosphere we frequently visit when we're both in Cornwall. It's always a perfect setting for a well overdue catch up, a delightful lunch before hitting the beach or the shops, or even a treat on special occasions!
Yesterday was a dull, cloudy sort of day with a hint of Cornish mizzle but it didn't dampen our spirits. We set off at lunchtime in Sarah's custard yellow car, Charlie, chattering away excitedly about what we had been up to, our plans for the day and how we both hoped there was some of Dolly's gorgeous Lavender Treacle Tart available when we got there.
Sadly, there wasn't any Treacle Tart on the menu that day but there were plenty of other tempting treats on display. Sarah ordered a warm White Chocolate brownie fondant and a Rose Lemonade and I chose a pot of tea for one, a Rose Lemonade and a slice of gooey Honey & Quince cake.
Luckily for us, a group of people vacated our favourite window seats just as we arrived so we quickly moved our bags before someone else beat us to it! Sarah said her brownie was really good, and my Honey & Quince cake made up for my disappointment at having no Lavender Treacle Tart. The sweet, buttery cake was perfectly crumbly with soft, juicy fruit spread on top, lovely!

Dolly's, which can be found on Church Street in Falmouth's town centre, is a beautiful Georgian Tea room which serves a variety of teas, delicious savoury meals and sweet treats (including of course, Cornish Cream Teas) by day, before transforming into a sophiscated Wine and Gin bar by night, serving cocktails in teapots and Tapas by candlelight.

While I have visited Dolly's a number of times during the day for lunch (I recommend the warm Crab and Lemon crumble with French bread and the Cinnamon French toast!), I have yet to experience Dolly's in the evening. It's definitely on my 'To-Do list' before I head off to University in September! If there's one thing I enjoy more than a cup of tea and cake, it's a tasty drinky-poo and Dolly's has plenty to choose from! They have an impressive selection of 100 different gins, and I'm going to make it my mission this summer to try as many as I can! What is more delicious and refreshing than Rose Lemonade? Rose lemonade with a shot of Gin!

One of the things I love about Dolly's, apart from the homemade goodies, is the many adorable trinkets, from tiny cat teapots to the dainty tea cups and saucers. From the moment you walk up the stairs, there's something pretty and unique to look at. The shimmery, opulent looking wall paper and the Georgian plasterwork on the ceiling give character to the main room, which is spacious and airy with its large windows. I love sitting in the window seat and watching people wander along the street down below while sipping my tea.

I'm camera shy

This lovely lady is Dolly's resident Golden Laborador Hebe, who turned 10 yesterday! Hebe can always be seen in Dolly's saying hello to customers while wearing her pink collar and pearls, cute!

Dolly's is very doggy-friendly!

Once we had paid, taken more photos of the wonderful displays of teacups and said bye to the lovely staff, we headed off to the harbour to watch the little boats coming in and going out and take some more pics!

I also took the opportunity to try my hand at some amateur photography - it's one thing I definitely want to practice this year for the benefit of this blog! I cannot (and wouldn't) of course, take credit for all of these photos. The majority of them were taken by Sarah, who is a very talented photographer! She even took what is probably the first photo anyone has ever taken of me which I actually like (below)!

I hope you enjoyed this post, please do comment/message me if you've visited Dolly's or Falmouth. If you ever visit Falmouth, pop into Dolly's for a pot of tea  - try and nab one of the window seats! It might become one of your new favourite places like it is mine!

Ciao for now!
